Vision Rehabilitation Services

Our Vision Rehabilitation Team helps individuals navigate their environments and adopt accommodations that allow them to remain independent and do the things they want to do through a variety of trainings available below.


ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING TRAINING:

Is your vision impacting your daily activities? Activities of daily living training teaches individuals how to implement low vision aids and techniques into their daily routines to help with:

  • Basic food preparation
  • Financial record keeping
  • Writing tasks
  • Using braille
  • Money identification
  • Personal grooming and cleaning
  • And more

COMPUTER AND DEVICE TRAINING:

  • Typing on a keyboard
  • Sending and receiving emails
  • Using screen magnification software to enhance the image on the computer screen
  • Using JAWS (Job Access with Speech) to audibly read what is on the computer screen
  • Tablet and smartphone usage

ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY TRAINING:

  • Utilizing a white cane to navigate surroundings
  • Self-protection skills in the community
  • Orientation to new or unfamiliar areas and street crossings
  • Using public transportation

LOW VISION SERVICES:

Low vision services are available to provide training on how to best use magnifiers, glare control and lighting to maximize remaining vision.


GROUP SERVICES:

Group training:
A comprehensive group training is available in the community to individuals 55+ for senior groups, support groups, independent living facilities and assisted living facilities. The training is once a week for four weeks. Each session is one and a half hours long and will include a combination of the trainings available above.

Specialized Group Training:
Specialized training is available at Cleveland Sight Center and includes braille, meal prep and cooking.

Independent Living Program:
Cleveland Sight Center’s Independent Living program provides services to seniors 55+ who meet eligibility requirements and have a diagnosed eye condition that is interfering with their daily living.
