Early Intervention Services

Image of a child sitting next to their white caneCleveland Sight Center provides Early Intervention services to infants and toddlers (birth-3rd birthday) with visual impairments and their families across Northeast Ohio. Our Early Intervention Specialists work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to:

  • Conduct an individualized assessment and review medical records/history
  • Tailor interventions based on the unique needs of each child
  • Participate in Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) teams with our county partners
  • Educate the families about their child’s vision loss and how it may affect development
  • Provide strategies, activities and resources to assist the family or caregivers
  • Work with the child to teach visual and compensatory skill development
  • Collaborate with the child’s other community providers to maximize progress
  • Offer case management services to support the family through the child’s first three years as well as the transition to special education preschool at age 3

These services are typically provided in the family’s home or in another natural environment for the child.  CSC Early Intervention staff collaborate with many community partners such as county Early Intervention programs (through Ohio’s Department of Developmental Disabilities, DODD) and other community providers to maximize the progress for each child and give knowledge and support to each family.
