Camp counselors in a circle.

Enrich Lives & Change the World

We are looking for empathetic, dynamic, creative individuals to guide our campers and programs, for those who are able to lead by example, and for those who are ready for more than a summer job. Our program will mold you into someone with marketable knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) while giving you the most meaningful experience possible: the opportunity to expand the world of our clients, help promote their independence, and become a part of a life-long community of people who believe in equity and accessibility.

Each summer we train and employ qualified and dedicated individuals who are 18 years old and older to serve as counselors, program and leadership staff, support staff, and a Camp Nurse. In addition to your paycheck, you will also be provided with room and board – meaning all housing, meals, laundry, and utilities will be covered! Similarly, you’ll receive additional training and certifications; professional development opportunities; letters of recommendation; and unforgetable memories.

It’s More Than a Summer Job

All of our summer staff sleep in the staff area of our camper cabins, eat meals with our campers, provide sighted guide, and participate in all camp activities. All of our staff also work together to plan and lead programming in a multitude of different Specialty Areas.

What does all of that mean? It means that we prevent burn-out in our staff by giving them a strong support system of other staff members, and our staff stays enthusiastic and energetic throughout the summer, because their tasks are varied and interesting!

Our Specialty Areas directly relate to integral aspects of the camp experience—from leading programs to creating marketing collateral to ensuring safety and upholding American Camp Association protocols. Each Area is of the utmost importance to Highbrook Lodge, and each presents its own range of excitement and challenges.

Specialty Areas:

  • Fine Arts
  • Recreation & Athletics
  • Performing Arts
  • Environment, Survival, & Conservation
  • Special Events & Excursions
  • Aquatics
  • Marketing & Social Media
  • Maintenance & Housekeeping
  • Food Service

Add-Ons (aka positions you can add on to your base position, comes with extra compensation): Lifeguard, Driver

Internships and Fellowships

If you’re looking to make a longer commitment, gain more marketable skills, or make even more of a difference, we have two more options to engage with us!

Internships at Highbrook Lodge are flexible and able to be tailored based on the intern’s needs—whether it is a field experience requirement for school, or a technical boost to the intern’s resume. We have hosted interns working in marketing and communications, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreation therapy and leisure, orientation and mobility, vision rehabilitation therapy, special education, and are open to more!

Fellowships at Highbrook Lodge are a 15-month commitment, including two summers of residential employment at camp. During the school year in between the summers, our Fellows complete a service project designed in conjunction with Highbrook’s full-time staff that will benefit camp in a meaningful way. Examples of projects could include creating a new staff training module, giving a program area a makeover, overhauling the camp social media accounts, engaging camp staff alumni, designing a Counselor-In-Training program, and more. At the end of the 15 months, Fellows will receive an additional stipend for their time and energy, as well as a certificate and recognition at a public event.
