“Open Your Eyes to Vision Loss” is an event to educate family members and or caregivers of individuals who are blind or visually impaired in order to help build empathy and awareness for what their loved one is experiencing. Each individual planning to attend should RSVP. All are welcome to accompany the family members and caregivers at this event. Reminder that this event is designed for caregivers. Clients of CSC are allowed to attend, but should bring their sighted family member, friend or caregiver.

Family members and caregivers will also learn ways to properly assist their loved ones in a manner that aids in their independence. 

Participants will attend three sessions:

• The social/emotional impact of vision loss and how to provide support as caregiver that promotes independence
• Training on how to provide human guide. Human guide is a navigational technique in which a sighted person provides direction and support while walking and guiding an individual to and from a location
• Education on the tools and techniques that support individuals in completing daily tasks.
