- Provide innovative technological resources.
- Support new programs and dedicated staffing.
Vision Loss from Eye Diseases will Increase as Americans Age
With the aging of our population, the number of Americans with eye disorders is increasing, and vision loss is fast becoming a major national health concern. By the year 2020, the number of people who are blind or have low vision is projected to increase substantially. Blindness or low vision affects 3.3 million Americans age 40 and over, or one in 28. This figure is projected to reach 5.5 million by the year 2020.

Low Vision Self-Help Support Groups
Our licensed social workers assist clients in starting and running community based, low vision self-help support groups. These groups are run by clients, volunteers, and/or professionals. They are a place to come together to share your experiences, insights and allow you to spend time with others who share the challenge of vision loss. Low vision self-help groups exist in senior living buildings, libraries, churches, temples, and senior centers. Our social workers will help you find a group and/or give you the tools to help you get a group started. Low Vision Support Groups.

Blind Golf Program Inspires Golfers and Coaches
Cleveland Sight Center’s Blind Golf program enables new as well as experienced blind or visually impaired golfers to enjoy golf with the help of the many volunteers who donate their time and talent to this effort. This program provides our clients with an opportunity for socialization, competition, remaining active and having fun. On the golf course, the volunteer coach becomes the “eyes” of the golfer to help select the right club, line up the golfer behind the ball, describe the terrain and the shot. This partnership transforms golf into a team sport, one that is rewarding for both the golfer and the coach.
