    Business Enterprise Food Service Management Online Training Program Overview

    The Ohio BEP enables Ohioans who are legally blind to have careers in food service management. Today, BEP has over 100 food service and vending facilities in Ohio.

    As a BEP manager you will be the sole proprietor of a business. Your income will come from the profits of your facility. In Ohio, BEP entrepreneurs employ more than 170 people. The average yearly personal income of a BEP manager is approximately $38,000.

    This program provides excellent potential for a career as an entrepreneur.

  • Objective

    This training program will provide instruction online, via computer training modules, and license consumers in their home area for independent earning potential as a manager for cafeteria, snack bar, newsstand and vending machine locations. Included in the program will be 80 hours of hands-on training with an experienced BE state operator.

    Key Features

  • Individualized training instruction for each consumer
  • BE training instructor coordinates instruction with trainees via email and/or telephone communication
  • Rolling Enrollment Policy: Consumers can begin training once accepted into the program
  • Trainees work at their own pace
  • Trainees gain practical knowledge during their in-stand training sessions and are mentored by an experienced BE state operator

    Admission Criteria

  • Current Eye Report indicating legal blindness as required by the Randolph- Sheppard Act
  • U.S. citizen as required by the Randolph-Sheppard Act
  • Drug/alcohol screening
  • Credit Bureau documentation
  • Criminal background documentation
  • High school diploma certificate or GED
  • Two week pre-training in-stand evaluation

    Cost

    This program is a VRP3 Administrative contract - tuition and pre-training/in-stand training fees are included as part of the contract. As a result, there is no cost for the BE online training program.

    Online System Requirements

    In order to successfully participate in the online training program, consumers must be proficient in:
  • Windows
  • Internet/Email
  • Word Processing
  • Keyboarding (15 words per minute)
  • Using assistive software (i.e. JAWS or Magic)
